If you are making Kentucky Bourbon then you can skip this step and the making the filter step as well as Kentucky Bourbon is not filtered, only Tennessee Whiskey is filtered through Maple. but keep it separate it wont be as good as the original batch. if you think your SG is low there is not much you can do about it, other than cheat, I didn't do this because I wanted to get it right but if you want to, then here's what to do, get some sugar and dissolve it in hot water and add it to the fermenter and stir it, check the SG and keep adding until its high enough for you.
